How to audit your blog’s seo with AI in one hour

TL;DR: Do not ask AI for “an SEO audit” — you will get a generic checklist. Ask it four specific diagnostic questions using your real data, and you will usually find that your problem is one thing: indexation, intent mismatch, or internal linking. Fix that one thing.

Before you start: get the two real inputs

An audit without data is astrology. You need:

1. Search Console: the Pages report (indexed vs not indexed) and the Performance report exported as CSV.
2. Your sitemap or a list of all your URLs.

That is enough. Skip the paid crawler for a first pass.

Question 1: Is anything actually indexed? (10 minutes)

This is the one that matters and the one everybody skips. In Search Console, compare total published URLs against indexed URLs. If you have published 90 posts and 12 are indexed, stop the audit. No amount of on-page optimisation matters for a page Google has not indexed.

The usual causes, in order: the site is young and has few external links, pages are orphaned with no internal links pointing at them, or thin content that is not worth indexing. The fix for the first is time and real links; the second is a hub page linking everything; the third is consolidation.

Question 2: Where are you almost ranking? (15 minutes)

Export the Performance CSV, filter to queries at average position 8-20, and paste the top 30 rows in:

“These are queries where my site ranks positions 8-20 with impressions but few clicks. Group them by underlying intent. For each group, tell me whether the ranking page likely matches that intent or whether the query needs a different page entirely.”

Positions 8-20 are the only cheap wins on any site. Position 40 needs a new page; position 3 needs nothing.

Question 3: Does the page match the intent? (15 minutes)

For your top five near-miss queries, paste the query and your page’s H1, intro and headings:

“Someone searching this query wants what, specifically? Does this page’s structure answer that in the first screen, or does it make them scroll past preamble? What is the single change that would most improve the match?”

Most position 8-15 pages lose to a competitor that answers the question in the first 40 words. That is the whole fix, more often than any technical change.

Question 4: What links to what? (20 minutes)

Paste a list of your post titles and URLs:

“Group these posts into topic clusters. For each cluster, name which post should be the hub. Then list, for each post, three other posts it should link to and the natural anchor text. Prioritise posts that currently have nothing pointing to them.”

Internal linking is the highest-leverage thing you control directly. It is free, it requires no outreach, and it is the standard fix for pages stuck in “crawled — currently not indexed.”

What to ignore

• Keyword density. Not a thing.
• Generic “improve your meta descriptions” advice. Worth ten minutes across the whole site, not an afternoon.
• Any tool promising fast backlinks. Automated link building causes penalties. There is no version of this that works.
• Score-out-of-100 plugins. Optimising the score is not optimising for readers.
